IIT Jammu

Indian institute of technology is one of the prestigious Institutions in India that still doesn’t lose its credibility and provide the nation some of the brilliant minds. The IIT gradates not only did well at national level but also explored various opportunities in abroad. IIT has become the desire of millions of colleges’ students in India and every year, the students try their luck in entrance test. Only a fraction of more than hundred thousand candidates make their way to the selected IIT’s all over the country.

Now, the government has decided to establish, an IIT in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir government is this regard signed the memorandum of understanding with the IIT Delhi to set up the IIT Jammu.

The memorandum was signed by the Hament Kumar Sharma, the secretary of higher education department and Prof. Ramgopal Rao, the Director of IIT Delhi.

The deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Singh also participated in the signing ceremony.

25 acre of land has been allocated by the government in Nagrota for the IIT-however, from the coming session; the classes will be started in a temporary campus.

Mr. Singh praised the efforts of ministry of human resource development in this regard and showed his gratitude for providing all the necessary support and expertise and the formalities so that the MoU could be signed.

The deputy CM said that with the establishment of IIT Jammu, the pending demand of the state has been fulfilled.

Deputy CM, Singh also directed the concerned agencies to put all the resources for the timely construction of the project. He added that before this, the students have to go to other states for getting the engineering education.

The act of the government must be praised. However, this step is purely political. Because, the population of the Jammu and Kashmir is less as compared to other states while the other states are demanding the IIT establishment or even funds for the necessary completion of education projects. The government did not turn the ear to the legitimate demand of North states for the higher education and decided to go for Jammu IIT. They have done for their political vote bank.

The quality of the higher education institutes is declining, as there is not qualified faculty and infrastructure. The government still did not say a word to tackle the situation on this issue. The other burning issue is the large number of unemployed educated youth.

Instead of these political moves, the government must invest on the areas where the large number of youth is out of education sphere because of the absence of colleges and schools.
