As far as the secondary education is concerned, Mizoram board of school education is an autonomous governmental body for academic administration in Mizoram having its jurisdiction from elementary to higher secondary education. The board of education was established in 1975 by the MBSE act. The act was essentially approved by the legislative assembly of Mizoram union territory and the board started its functioning from 2 December 1976.
The main function of the board is to provide recognition to the various schools and colleges and institutes and the same also monitors the administrative work. The board of education leaves no stone unturned to maintain the quality of education by prescribing curricular structure and recommending text books. The board of education co-ordinates well with the state government for any kind of educational matters and at the same time motivate students as well as the teachers by conducting interactive programs. The entire syllabus and curriculum for the students are prescribed by the educational board of Mizoram.
Every year the Mizoram board conducts the exams in the state, thousand of examination centers are normally made to accommodate the massive number of students. The exams are normally held in the month of March and result making takes two month. For the year 2020, the expected month is again May 2020 and most probably in the first week, the board will officially announce the result.
The Mizoram State Council of Educational Research & Training was started in January 1980. It is an academic wing of the Directorate of School Education and is located at Chaltlang since its establishment. SCERT is responsible for qualitative improvement of school education from primary to higher secondary schools, non-formal education and teacher education. It is also responsible for successful implementation of various education projects sponsored by central government, UNICEF as well as state government.
